The Cottage Rose

Into shabby chic or vintage? Conveniently located in downtown Edinboro, The Cottage Rose, owned by the husband-and-wife team of David and Gina Mussett since 2019, is the store for the best in French country home décor, furnishings, and unique gifts.

Gina leaned on 45 years in retail to find just the right aesthetic for the shop. Management positions at Bombay Co. and Pier 1 made her well-versed in building customer relationships and merchandising. You’ll find everything from candles and Beekman soaps to jewelry, as well as decorative garden pieces, antique tools and vintage furnishings.

“This store is a dream come true,” said Gina, who fell in love with the community when the couple bought a cottage on Edinboro Lake. It was such a Utopian setting that they called the cottage their Mayberry. Being able to make a difference in the community is important to Gina, who knew the word cottage had to be in the name since that’s what brought them to Edinboro, and Rose is a tribute to her aunt and her daughter.

Transforming the former dry cleaners into The Cottage Rose took two and a half years. “We almost divorced eight times during renovations,” Gina joked, with all the building codes and rules that they followed to the letter. The couple hired an all-local crew to do the work, and the result is exquisite: A cozy and inviting country cottage, decorated for the season, with each corner more beautiful than the next. Each section in the store is a different theme, providing customers with plenty of inspiration. Gina offers store services like home staging and accessorizing, space planning, floor plan redesign, furniture painting, and mantle-scaping.

Everything in The Cottage Rose is for sale — even the dressers, desks and a piano on which items are placed. The vintage items like Depression glass evoke sweet memories for customers. Gina often hears a customer exclaim, “Oh, I remember my grandmother having this …” etc. And she loves hearing customers burst into giggles over her selection of laugh-out-loud greeting cards.

Popular store events include tea parties with tea samples; lessons on making centerpieces and other decorating-focused crafts; and their Holiday Open House, held annually on the first Saturday in November. The Cottage Rose is open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and is fully accessible.
