At first glance, Painted Finch Gallery owner Wendy Neckers would appear to have little in common with the late actor Patrick Swayze. But just as Dalton, the famously undersized bouncer that Swayze portrayed in the 1989 film “Roadhouse,” was continually told by folks that they thought he’d be bigger, Neckers is repeatedly told by visitors that they never expected to find such an eclectic and comprehensive art gallery in the middle of downtown Corry. It’s something the Art Institute of Pittsburgh graduate takes as a compliment and uses as a prime motivator. She is an artist herself who did design work for a record label in Nashville and was later part of Allegheny Artistry, an art co-op owned by local artists in Youngsville. As a long-time member of the Corry Area Artist’s Guild, Neckers longed for a beautiful location to show great artwork for more than a weekend. She first opened her gallery along Route 6 in 2012. She moved the Painted Finch to its current downtown location at 32 North Center Street in 2015, and has expanded its offerings ever since. In 2017, she opened the artisan gift shop Epiphany’s Emporium right next door. She continues to fill her gallery with work from top regional artists such as Waterford’s Jack Paluh, but pieces from artists and artisans from all across the country are also on display. With a husband who often attends professional conferences and grown children who now live in different parts of the United States, Neckers has used her frequent travel to make connections with galleries in other cities and then brings that art back to Corry. And if running two successful businesses isn’t enough, Neckers also holds leadership roles in multiple community organizations. She serves as chair of the Downtown Corry Business Association and president of the board of Impact Corry. The Painted Finch Gallery and Epiphany’s Emporium are both open Monday through Saturday from 10-5 and Sundays from noon to 4.
