When you combine fresh, delicious food made from scratch; beautiful lake views; sports on TV; local beer on tap; and live music on Fridays and Saturdays, you’ve got everything a neighborhood watering hole should be. Add in a historic 267-foot lakefront waterslide and beach, and you’re now a popular regional destination.

The only commercial business on Canadohta Lake with a liquor license, Frog Pond Restaurant is the place to kick back in summer, with outdoor seating, waiter service to the beach, a tiki bar, a video arcade and plenty of fun events to keep families entertained.

And yes, the waterslide. Built in 1985, it’s the star of the lakefront. “It’s safe family fun,” said Tim Grendell, whose family has vacationed at the lake for three generations and who bought the property with his wife, Diane, in 2024. “The glacier-built, spring-fed Canadohta Lake is super clean and has a 9.9 horsepower limit, which makes it safer for swimmers. For $10, you can use the waterslide all day. It’s for generations of families: One summer, a 93-year-old went down the slide four times.”

The restaurant stays open year-round with a menu as all-American as burgers and apple pie, and the burgers are so tasty, they have their own menu. Other popular menu items include Angus reserve steaks, fresh-dough pizza, subs and the 14 beers on tap, including local craft beers like Poverty Knob.

Frog Pond hosts special nights like Fish Fry Fridays, featuring fresh fish from Presque Isle Fish & Farms. Canadohta Lake Bike Night is every other Wednesday during the summer from 5 to 9 p.m., when motorcyclists, motorbikers and side-by-side enthusiasts ride in, hang out, eat well and have fun. Other special events include poker runs, pool tourneys, trivia night, karaoke, even an ice fishing contest. Memorial Day weekend, July Fourth weekend and Labor Day weekend are huge summer events. They also host a Kids Fun Day, a rubber duck race and the Canadohta Lake Queen teen pageant.

The star of the restaurant’s interior is a 1952 Criss Craft wooden boat that serves as the main bar. The starboard side of the boat includes 15 seats. The restaurant was renovated in 2025 with new floors and ceilings, an additional bar and new restrooms — complete with a laugh in the men’s room decor you’ll have to see for yourself!

With two party rooms — the 36-guest Sun Room and the cozier Captain’s Room — the Frog Pond Restaurant is ideal for 21st birthday parties, weddings, St. Patrick’s Day celebrations and more. With the majority of the lake’s vacationers hailing from Pittsburgh, Frog Pond also offers camper/RV rental sites. There are two mini golf places nearby, the Union City Country Club, as well as a skating rink, an ice cream shop and Timberland Bait Shop.
