A library goes beyond shelves of books, and a good library is a crucial resource to the community. Corry Public Library falls into the latter of the two, acting as an invaluable resource to residents. The organization was established to serve the Corry Area School District, and staying true to form, its mission is to inspire lifelong learning. It houses over 75,000 items, including books, DVDs, Maritime Museum passes, mobile hotspots, magazines, eight public computers, and audiobooks. The free membership also provides access to countless online databases that can be accessed remotely or using the library’s 24/7 Wi-Fi, including language programming, ebooks, archived newspaper articles, job resources, and research tools. Little ones can be found buzzing around the children’s department, shaking their tail feathers during Baby Boogie, building LEGOs, crafting up something savvy to match story time, and getting hands-on experience with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) programming. In the summer, the library partners with the Corry Arts Auxiliary to bring learning and expression together in a nurturing environment. Teen and adult patrons can participate in book clubs, craft days, summer reading, and more. In an age of the ever-present digital divide, resources like hotspots, web access, and educational services promote equity and ensure that rural communities remain relevant.
