Knowledge truly is power, and the Corry Higher Education Council equips residents with all the resources they could need to be successful. Founded to make up for a lack of adult education and workforce training opportunities, the Hi-Ed saw its start in 1991 in a historical brick building that used to be home to a hotel in downtown Corry. The Hi-Ed offers programming like computer training, personal enrichment and business offerings, and leadership opportunities. Computer labs, classrooms, and office spaces make the cornerstone building a one-stop-shop for learning. Community partnerships allow the Hi-Ed to offer a wide range of educational offerings. Corry Area High School’s Career and Technical Center offers welding, machining, and vehicle inspection licensing classes through the building. Other class offerings come from Northern Pennsylvania Regional College, Manufacturer and Business Association, the Tri-County Intermediate Unit, and the Erie County Community College. The Jefferson Educational Society, which is based in Erie, has a satellite location at the Hi-Ed and often offers educational presentations based on the interests of residents. Small business owners are encouraged to make use of classes on topics such as social media engagement and small business startup services provided by area organizations. With Matt Platz at the helm of the Hi-Ed’s operation, the success story is expected to continue, enabling residents to achieve whatever goals they have their sights set on.
